Tips for the Newly Single
First, take your time. Don’t feel pressured to set up a date immediately. Consider joining for a lengthier period of time, such as 3-6 months, rather than 1 month only.
Next, consider your profile info carefully. Yes, you want it to tell a little bit about yourself. But, avoid talking about your ex and avoid writing about having left a long relationship. No one wants to meet someone who is on the rebound or still hung up on somebody else. This is your chance to move on and cut the ties to that former person.
Another word of advice would be to not include a picture of yourself with your ex cropped out of it in your profile. You will find many pictures like this in online profiles and they are always a bad move. You may like the way that you look in the picture but everyone else will wonder about the significant other who has been chopped off the screen. It is a much better idea to find a pleasant picture of yourself solo and if you do not have one, then have a friend take one.
After you have joined the site and set up your profile, you are likely to being receiving responses from interested parties. Take your time and allow yourself to learn a bit about each person online before you set up a meeting. It is best to take things in stages, beginning with emails and graduating to phone calls. Then you can set up a face to face meeting with a potential partner.
Try and avoid comparing them to your ex on both a positive and negative level. Your best bet is to leave your ex out of the picture all together and avoid any types of comparisons if possible. This is the way to truly live in the present and appreciate the new person for who they truly are inside and out. Most of all, be gentle with yourself. A break-up is not the easiest thing to go through but you will come out on the other side and maybe even meet that someone special in the process.
